![]() When developing chess computers, one must ask oneself whether the technology of piece recognition is actually necessary. These offer tournament organizers, who do not have the financial cushion, to broadcast their chess tournaments live.īut back to the topic. This focus was also the reason why the smartboards were developed by DGT. Of course, DGT boards are also an ingenious product for private use by chess players, but this development is mainly financed by tournament organizers who broadcast their tournaments live on the Internet. DGT boards are primarily intended for precisely this purpose and this is where the largest group of buyers can be found. ![]() It is a complex technique, the effective use of which only comes into play when broadcasting chess games. Chess boards and chess computers with piece recognition have been around for a long time. To answer that, I have to go back a little further. It is a shame that us loyal DGT users are not allowed to enjoy using the DGT e-pieces we have so heavily invested in, and will be forced to use lightweight plastic pieces to have a proper OTB online experience with DGT. In the first sales version, online gaming is in the foreground.Ĭould you confirm if Stockfish will be the only local engine option? Or, will multiple engines be available? Really hoping for the latter!Īlso, do you know if there is any consideration at DGT to produce a similar form-factor board (battery powered board with LEDs and connectivity) that allows the use of traditional DGT e-board pieces? It seems like the lower cost DGT plastic "Smart Board" could be easily modified to integrate LEDs, a battery, and bluetooth connectivity. The integration of local engines will come with later updates of the Android and iOS apps. ![]() So it’s up to the online platform which options they supply to use with our DGT Pegasus". "The board hasn’t a build in chess engine but, if a online platform has features like engines you can use it with our board. Just a quick update from DGT which contradicts my previous post which came from a DGT retailer. Swiss Army Knife board (durable, portable, affordable, and does it all) regards, I honestly don't understand what is happening with this "smart board" market! I was hoping Millennium would get there, but they seem unwilling to produce a board with an integrated rechargeable battery, and they still require clunky external units for their engines, connectivity, and battery power. Alternatively, DGT could market upgraded Centaur pieces for these boards as the Centaur market grows. What makes matters worse, why a smaller board than the Centaur? If it utilizes the same Centaur chess piece technology, why not at least just produce a Centaur "2.0" with online connectivity, and retain the inboard engine? Money could be saved by purchasing the board only. Why doesn't DGT create an evolution to their plastic "smart board" which utilizes the standard DGT piece technology, with a built in engine, internal battery, connectivity, and LEDs? I was sincerely hoping the next iteration would be a dedicated, battery powered affordable board, with a built-in engine for local "offline" play, with online connectivity options, which utilized classic DGT pieces for piece recognition. Wired USB board, Rev II, Centaur, weighted classic pieces, regular timeless pieces. I own multiple DGT boards and DGT chess piece sets. ![]()
